Etymology:

yingina (IPA [‘jɪŋ.i,na:] sounds like (yeeng ee nah) (Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre 2016). Tasmanian Aboriginal language (palawa kani) word for the Great Lake, the Eastern boundary of the species alpine range, in the Central Plateau Lakes region. This specific name was chosen in collaboration with the Tasma- nian Aboriginal Centre; acknowledging that given the species size and diurnal habits, it would once have had an indigenous name, one which has been lost due to colonial disruption of Aboriginal land, culture and language.
